Businesses considering filing for a US Trademark will pay higher fees as of January 18, 2025. The base application fee will increase from $250 to $350 per class per mark. Also, suppose the trademark description varies from the USPTO’s list of acceptable goods and services, which is often the case. In that case, there will be an additional $200 surcharge, which increases an additional $200 if the description exceeds 1000 characters (including spaces and punctuation).
There will also be a $100 per class surcharge fee for any incomplete or missing information in an application, which can be costly if the business files an application on their own and omits information. There is no appeal process to contest whether the information provided was technically correct.
